About “The Borrower”

n6235025_39964115_8941Who’s the borrower?

Meet me, Jane.    When I was a kid, my idea of a fun Saturday or Sunday morning was to wake up before dawn and rearrange the funiture in my bedroom while trying not to wake my parents.  I should have known then that it would become a lifetime obsession. . .

Why “The Borrowed Abode?”

It’s simple, really.  I called this blog “The Borrowed Abode” because the underlying theme with all my projects is that they’re landlord-friendly.   (And with three pets, pet-friendly, too!)  I’m working to inexpensively make my rented condo just as lovely as if I owned it, but without implementing renovations or other permanent fixes. The borrowed abode can still be a beautiful home.

Style Inspirations:

Thanks to my former boss, who gave me a lovely Barcelona coffee table that she was unable to use, I’m madly in love with all things Mid-Century Modern.  Brady Bunch Chic.”  You know, the atomic ranch homes from Palm Springs in the 50’s, and the sleek, clean-lined consoles and sofas with the round tapered legs.  But now I’m trying to kick it up a notch with random and whimsical colorful accents.

My fabulous boyfriend is also a huge inspiration to me – always supportive of my obsession with DIY projects, buying too much second-hand stuff, and blogging.  He’s my partner in crime, and I can’t imagine life without his fabulous decorating ideas!

I also blog regularly over at Little Cloth Bag, and share my travel and personal antics on Hikingdogs:  Adventures with Jane.

Hi Jane, I appreciate your comment on DCbyDesign concerning my Modern Gem in Clarksville. Can’t quite get where you moved–would love to invite you to stop over and see my home. Howard Countians don’t quite know how to handle a MODERN so it’s always fun to meet people who “understand” and “love” the design, culture, and philosophy.

Do write me at I understand your childhood–I loved to set up spaces/furniture for my few dolls–I didn’t actually love dolls but I loved setting up their “homes”. Interior design and architecture are my “art” and I do space planning best.

    Hope to hear from you.

Did you find a space for your plastic cutting sheets/boards? Margaret
